[Vegetarian Recipe]: RM5.25 Fava Beans (Ful) with Lebanese Bread

Why I Recommend This Recipe

This is a Yemeni Vegetarian recipe that is full of flavor, healthy, easy, and cheap to make.

Ful is the Arabic word for Broad Beans (Fava Beans or Ful). This recipe will be a great crowd pleaser if you have guests over.

CAUTION: As delicious as this recipe is, it does not freeze and reheat well. I’ve tried, the beans become watery. So this will be a one-time meal recipe only.

These are the ingredients to make 2 portions of Ful. Assuming you have most of the stuff already in your kitchen, the active ingredient prices are stated in the parenthesis:

  • 1 Can of Fava Beans (RM 5.50)
  • 1 medium to large Yellow Onion
  • 2 fresh tomatoes (RM 1)
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin seed powder
  • 1 teaspoon of coriander seed powder
  • 2 teaspoon of tomato puree
  • 2 teaspoon of chili paste
  • coriander leaves (RM 1.50)
  • Lebanese bread (RM 2.50)

The total cost for active ingredients (with prices listed above) is RM 10.50. This meal can serve a min of 2 persons, which brings the price per meal to RM 5.25.
