KLCC is an acronym for Kuala Lumpur City Center. This is where the iconic Petronas Twin Towers are located. This area is the most sought after address for international businesses. The Twin Towers itself is mostly office spaces. Suria KLCC is the name of the high-end mall located at the base of the towers. KLCC is the colloquial name most locals use to describe both the mall and the office towers. The whole development is owned by Petronas, which is a giant Malaysian Oil & Gas company linked with the Malaysian government. They operate to dig out and process crude oil all over the world and is one of the most sought after employers in Malaysia. Suria KLCC Mall The mall itself is quite upscale and has pretty much anything that you would wish for shopping. The complex has a convention center, an art gallery, an abundance of retail shops and restaurants, bookstores, a cinema, a giant aquarium, and even an orchestra hall to name a few. Parking is abundant but is one of the most expensive parking rates in Kuala Lumpur at RM5 for the first hour and RM4 for the subsequent hours. More on their parking rates on their website. KLCC Symphony Lake Water Show Right in front of the pedestrian entrance of Suria KLCC mall, there is an esplanade with a 10,000 sqft man-made lake that houses water fountain musical displays. The water fountain runs during the day time too but is best at night with the light show. Lake Symphony Light and Sound Water Fountain showtimes are 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm daily. In between the that, there is the Light only show (without music) at 7:30 pm, 8:30 pm, and 9:30 pm daily. KLCC Park KLCC Park is located opposite the pedestrian entrance is a 50-acre green sanctuary. It is a perfect place to do some strolling and also a run. Some parts of the tracks are rubberized to be easy on your knees. The park also includes a huge 2-acre children's playground. There is also a shallow wading pool for children to splash about. Do note this is not a swimming pool for adults. Wading pool Petronas Art Gallery The alternative local name is Galeri Petronas. This is an art gallery located at level 3 of Suria KLCC mall. It is a non-profit art gallery to help promote local art. There is no queue and you must be interested in art and museums in order to fully appreciate this attraction. A great place personally to take your mind away from the typical shopping activity in the mall. But it might be a good idea to call them ahead to see if they are open to the public on the day of your visit because it is often booked for private events. The operating hours are the same as the Suria KLCC mall: 10 am to 10 pm.Admission is free.Phone number: +603-20517770 Petrosains This is a museum-style interactive science discovery center located on the 4th floor of the Suria KLCC mall. It is the perfect place to bring families with small children to learn and be inspired by science through various interactive activities. As the name suggests, Petrosains focuses mostly on Petroleum Science. Opening Hours: 9:30 am to 5:30 pmPetrosains website. Kinokuniya Bookstore A great Japanese owned bookstore that is arguably one of the best in Malaysia. You can get almost any book here. Opening Hours: 10 am to 10 pmKinokuniya website Aquaria KLCC A giant 60,000 sqft aquarium located below the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. It is an excellent venue to learn about the ocean and marine life. Perfect date idea and to bring families with small children. The recommended time commitment to fully enjoy this attraction is around 1 hour 45 min. There are several exhibits in the aquarium showcasing different aquatic and marine life from all over the world but focusing more on tropical wildlife. Petronas Twin Towers The towers were constructed in 1996 and with a total of 88 floors, it soars up to 451.9 meters tall. It is the tallest structure in Malaysia until late 2019 when an even taller tower is built named the Exchange 106. The lights of the twin towers start at sundown, around 7:45 pm till midnight. Here is the best place, in my opinion, to take photos with the towers: The 2 towers are predominately premium office spaces. You can purchase tickets to go to the bridge that links the 2 towers together at level 41. Twin Tower Bridge Website. Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra Image from mpo.com.my A place of live orchestra performances from world-class musicians. It is located at level 2 of Petronas Tower 2. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is often abbreviated to MBO. Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra website. Nobu Japanese Restaurant Located at level 56 of tower 3, Nobu is an exclusive Japanese restaurant with a breathtaking 360-degree view of the city. The dress code in this restaurant is strictly enforced. Smart casual. No slippers or round collar T-shirts. No children under 12 are allowed as well. Despite the tight dress code, it would make a great experience for you and your loved ones to commemorate your visit to Kuala Lumpur. Nobu Lunch hours: 12 pm - 2 pmNobu Dinner hours: 6 pm - 10:30 pm.Nobu website. Marini's at 57 Marini's is an upscale Italian restaurant and rooftop bar located at level 57 of Tower 3. Just like Nobu, Marini's offers a breathtaking view of the city. Opening Hours: Best for dinner onwards after 6 pm.Marini's website. Skybar - Traders Hotel Skybar is another recommended upscale cocktail bar located at level 33 of the Traders Hotel just next to KLCC. It is one of the best places to see the Twin Towers. Weirdly enough, there is an indoor pool that runs along the entire bar at the foot level. Although the idea is definitely cool, just don't get too drunk and fall into the pool. Troika Sky Dining The Troika is the name of an upscale condominium just walking distance from KLCC. At the very top of this condominium, there are several restaurants and bars that offer spectacular views of the city and the Petronas Twin Towers. As of 2019, there are 5 themed restaurants & bars at Troika Sky Dining: Coppersmith - BarCantaloup - RestaurantFuego - Latin Restaurant & BarStrato - Italian RestaurantClaret - French Fine Dining & Wine Restaurant One of the most popular and longest-running establishments at the Sky Dining, Troika will have to be Fuego, a Latin Tapas restaurant and cocktail bar. This is a hotspot amongst urbanites and people celebrating special occasions, it could get really packed at night and especially over the weekend. A call to make a reservation could be a smart move. Troika Hours: 6 pm - 1 am.Troika website, Instagram. Jalan P Ramlee Jalan P Ramlee is located within walking distance from KLCC. It is known to be one of the nightlife areas in Kuala Lumpur after Changkat Bukit Bintang. The place is most lively at night, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman This was the house of the village headman (1910's) of a small town in the northern state of Kedah (Next to Thailand). It was relocated and restored to the middle of Kuala Lumpur in 1996. It is to showcase traditional Malay culture with handcrafted wooden architecture. It will show you a stark contrast between the traditional wooden house style over the modern glass concrete buildings that surround it. Inside the house, it will showcase the furnishings and decors of that time. It will make you feel like you have traveled back in time in a different era. You have to pay to get in at RM10 per person. If not, you can just take a picture of the house from the outside. Operating Hours: 10 am - 5 pm. Closed on Sundays.Guided Tours: 11 am & 3 pm.Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman Website. Kampung Baru Old Style Malay House Kampung Baru literally means 'New Village'. The short history of this place is that it was declared as a village reserve in 1900 and the occupants have flat out as opposed to any development. I don't blame them, we have too many malls and skyscrapers already. As a result of this, the whole city develops around it and in the middle of the city there is this traditional Malay village with a stark contrast between the ultra-modern city buildings surrounding it. Kampung Baru is a hot tourist destination for you to see an old Malay village smack in the middle of the city and also to enjoy excellent local Malay restaurants and the rich variety of food that this country offers. My favorite restaurant Some restaurants are open during lunch, but my best advice is for you to go for dinner or supper. Parking is quite a nightmare.
