Problem: Stainless steel & metal cooker/hotplate starts to rust due to water & air exposure. Visibly unpleasant, bad first impression, not good for the rental potential of your property.If left untreated, the metals will be further corroded & porous. Solution: A chemical agent & a scrubbing tool is needed to get rid of the rust. You will also need a disposable wiping cloth/ napkin. Chemical agent: I used Autosol brand metal polish. Scrubbing tool: You can purchase a set of wire brushes that has different hardness. You want to try with the softest first and gradually move up to a harder brush if the stains are stubborn. Be careful not to use a wire brush that is too hard, you might damage and scratch your appliance.An old flat head screwdriver to really scrape off super stubborn stains Disposable wiping cloth: The best is to use old clothes that you don’t use and throw them away afterward. I cut small portions of an old towel.If not, you can use a good quality kitchen towel that is not easily torn. Procedure: Squeeze some of the Autosol on the affected area (about how much you would use on a toothbrush) and start brushing and swirling the product around the affected area. You want to make sure that the rust is adequately covered with the product without being excessive.Let the product ‘eat-in’ into the rust for about 5 mins.Start brushing the rust away. The Autosol product will turn brown as it dissolves the rust.Use your wiping cloth to wipe away the first wave of rust & product. You can see a visible difference.Usually, 1 application is not enough, you have to keep repeating this whole process several times to get rid of most of the stains. If you have tried more than 3 applications, chances are, that’s the most you can do with this method.
